Affiliate Marketing With Twitter

Twitter is currently the 4th largest social network on the internet, and although people use it to communicate with friends and family, more and more small businesses and entrepreneurs are starting to find that it can, if used correctly produce a steady flow of traffic. Which, in turn, lends itself nicely to using affiliate marketing with Twitter.

Twitter is one social network where you can promote your affiliate links. Although there are some rules to follow in order to get the best results and stop your account getting suspended.

Let’s show you a proven way to get Twitter working for your affiliate business.

Setting Up Your Twitter Account

Profile & Bio

Setting up your account correctly will prove worth it in the long run. Uploading a good profile image is a must, preferably a nice head and shoulders shot of yourself. I guarantee your results will dip if any other image is used.

Create a description full of keywords for your bio. Ideal for getting found in searches. You can use keywords in the name section too. Relevant hashtags are also good to add in as these too will help people find you when searching.

All this editing of your profile can be done from your home page after you have signed up for your account, just click the edit profile button on the right-hand side.

I know this may seem obvious you will be amazed how many people do not do it. If you are serious about using Twitter go do it!

Make Use of Your Header

Your header acts as a massive advertising billboard so why not use it wisely. Why not create a call to action directing people to click on your link in your bio, or showcase one of your affiliate products.

 

I do this you can use a site like Canva which is totally free. Just sign up for an account and then choose the twitter header template then away you go, download, and then upload to your account.

What To Tweet

At the end of the day you need to get eyes on your tweets, but you also want others to like and retweet too, thus expanding your reach. Although, Twitter has increased the number of characters allowed in a tweet I still find the optimal amount is between 80-120.

Adding an image with you tweet increases visibility and gets your more engagement you can look at sites like Pixabay or Unsplash for royalty-free images or create your own using Canva which I mentioned before.

The last item to include is hashtags these are keywords or phrases relevant to the tweet preceded by a hashtag symbol. EG #hashtag. Beware don’t try to be clever and hijack popular trending tweets to get more views, Twitter is clamping down on unrelated hashtags so keep them relevant.

Building A Following

Now your account is sorted and you have some tweets going out now it’s time to start building your following.

Follow Others

Unless you are some sort of celebrity, which I doubt! The easiest way to start building your Twitter following is to follow others, a fair percentage will follow you back. As a new account maybe keep this quite small, to begin with, say 50 per day for older accounts then 200-300 could be possible.

The way to find people to follow is.

1. Find someone in your niche, with a big following 100k plus.
2. Follow them and start engaging on their tweets by liking and retweeting them
3. Click on their followers (available under the header on their account) and then start following them.
4. Repeat this with maybe 3-4 people.

You will get new followers every single day guaranteed…

Lists

If it helps you can create lists on your Twitter account and then place people into these lists. Using these will help you target people and make life really easy as your account grows. You can also subscribe to other people’s lists too. This is another fast way to follow people that have already been targeted. You don’t even have to follow someone to add them to a list.

Retweet, Like and Engage

Other ways to get on the radar of people within your niche, is to start liking, replying, and retweeting their tweets. Make sure these are relevant to your niche otherwise you will lose followers not gain them.

Retweeting works best on two fronts. You are helping out others by sharing their content and you are giving your followers more great content so they will love ya!

Creating Your Affiliate Links

So let’s move on to creating your affiliate links in your tweets.

Link Shortener

Firstly let’s talk link shorteners. As you will already know most affiliate links are long and ugly with loads of numbers and letters. Not very appealing to click on. To improve the look and clickability use a link shortener. Bit’ly is probably the most common one but there are loads, all are free to use. Just search on Google for link shorteners and sign up to one.

You then take your long affiliate link and paste it into the site and click create … this then gives you a much shorter link which is amazing for Twitter as we have a limited amount of characters to be effective.

Create a spreadsheet of all your affiliate links so you can access them easily and quickly if needed.

Hashtags

As I have already mentioned, hashtags are a great way of getting more reach as people will do a search to find information. Adding 2-3 relevant hashtags is always a great way to get more eyes on your affiliate tweets.

Blogging On Twitter

Sharing great content is probably the best way to engage and build trust with your followers. I great way to do this is to use your blog to create your content, and then share it on Twitter.

Having a blog does two things. It gives you credibility which is a real positive when it comes to any online marketing. It also gives you a great platform for your affiliate links as you can integrate them on there too.

Build Your Own Traffic List

Having your own email list is a MUST DO when working any business online. By using lead magnets or squeeze pages as they are also known, you can start to build your own list.

To do this you will need an email marketing company. You can set up selected email campaigns that you create once and then they send them out to everyone who joins your list.

The advantage of an email list is that you are in control, it’s your list, people may stop following you on Twitter but if you have them on your list you can email them anytime. How cool, is that!

Twitter Tools To Help You

Yes, before you say anything it is totally okay to use tools when using Twitter. However, this doesn’t mean to can just sit there with your feet up. Showing up on the platform most days is still the best way to go when on Twitter. Just use the tools to speed things up.

There are three tools that I used to help me on Twitter. The first one is called Manage Flitter and this helps me find highly targeted, active people to follow and then allows me to follow them fast. It also allows me to unfollow people that are now not active, or following me back.

Not a free tool unfortunately but the amazing value at just $12 a month. This well worth the money as it saves me heaps of time every day.

Social Oomph I used to set up tweets that can be tweeted out automatically this means that if I don’t get on Twitter one day I still have good content being sent out and seen. It is also great if like me you have loads of followers from the other side of the world. I can tweet out relevant content even if I am asleep.

Although they do have a free option I pay for the paid Twitter version $15 a month enables me to set it up and forget it.

Another site similar to Social Oomph is Buffer again ideal for tweeting out at set times in the day, I use this tool (free version) to send out retweets from others in my niche.
